Within the framework of the School of Civic Education, the High School of Public Governance held a thematic educational event dedicated to the discussion of mechanisms for regulating the cultural sphere of the European Union. The event was open to all those interested in the protection of cultural heritage and cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in this area.

The main purpose of the event was to familiarise participants with the existing mechanisms and institutions for the protection of cultural heritage at the level of the European Union. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the practical experience of European countries that have faced challenges similar to those currently facing Ukraine at different periods of their history. Such knowledge is extremely important for strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the context of protecting national cultural heritage and developing new effective approaches.

In her opening remarks, the Head of the Higher School, Yuliia Lykhach, stressed that Ukraine’s cultural heritage is under threat from armed aggression, destruction and systematic destruction of values that are important to the identity of the Ukrainian people. She stressed that in the current circumstances, the task of the state and civil society is to protect cultural treasures for future generations.

The speaker of the event was Larysa Kushynska, PhD in History, Associate Professor, who revealed the key aspects of the European Union’s cultural policy. She focused on the specifics of the division of competences between the EU and individual member states in matters of cultural regulation. Larysa Kushynska also spoke in detail about the mechanisms for ensuring the preservation of cultural heritage. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for deepening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of cultural interaction, including the exchange of practices, grant support, and the implementation of joint projects.

Cultural heritage is the foundation of national identity and an important element in shaping public consciousness. Its preservation plays a key role in strengthening the spiritual connection between generations and in creating a positive international image of the country.
