On 20 September, the High School of Public Governance hosted the final day of the Democracy Week educational marathon.

The last day was dedicated to the EU’s institutional framework aimed at promoting and protecting EU values, the interests of its citizens, the interests of its member states, and the relationship between Ukraine and the EU. The participants of the event discussed Ukraine’s integration into the European community and the challenges facing the country on its way to European integration.

The speaker of the event, Halyna Kaplenko, Head of the Department of Economics and Public Administration at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, revealed the key aspects of the work of all 7 EU institutions, and focused on the competence, functional purpose, powers and responsibilities of each institution. Ms Galyna described the current relations between Ukraine and the EU, emphasising that Ukraine is currently at an important stage of its European integration, noting that thanks to the EU’s support, Ukraine has already implemented a number of reforms, and focused on further efforts to adapt the Ukrainian governance system to European standards. The speaker emphasised that Ukraine’s active cooperation with the EU will help the country to move confidently towards full membership in the European community.

The participants gained new knowledge about the work of European institutions, which will contribute to Ukraine’s further integration into the European space. Cooperation with the EU, implementation of democratic reforms and strengthening of state institutions remain key areas of the country’s development.

The educational marathon is over, but the work on reforms continues, as democratic change and institutional strengthening is an ongoing process that opens up new opportunities for Ukraine and its citizens on the path to a common European future.
