At the end of June, the Summer School on International Humanitarian Law was held in Kyiv, which was attended by representatives of the High School.
Among the participants was Mykyta Cherniychuk, a specialist of the High School’s Professional Development Centre for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, who had the opportunity to deepen his knowledge of international humanitarian law, learn about current challenges and problems in this area, exchange experience with other specialists and improve his skills.
Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, Geelan Defurne, Head of Operations of the ICRC Delegation to Ukraine, and Daria Gerasymchuk, Advisor to the Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights, welcomed the participants.
Iryna Vereshchuk, Vice Prime Minister, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Head of the Interagency Commission for the Application and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Ukraine, addressed the forum participants on the activities of the Interagency Commission for the Application and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Ukraine.
During the training, topical issues related to the activities of the Interagency Commission for the Application and Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Ukraine were discussed.
In particular, they discussed the Geneva Conventions, their significance, relevance and practice of application; application and implementation of international humanitarian law in Ukraine; experience of commissions for the implementation of international humanitarian law in other countries.
The discussions were interesting and informative, as they were attended by leading experts in international humanitarian law. Participants were able to exchange experiences, share their knowledge and ideas, and develop practical recommendations to improve the application and implementation of international humanitarian law in Ukraine.
