On October 24, 2024, an online seminar “Innovative Approaches to Improving Language Literacy” was held, dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. The event was organized by the High School of Public Governance together with the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service and the National Commission for State Language Standards.
The seminar was attended by more than 1000 representatives of government agencies, educators and linguistic experts. The meeting discussed the importance of the Ukrainian language for public administration, as well as new tools and techniques to improve language literacy.
Yuliia Lykhach, Head of the High School of Public Governance, emphasized the importance of improving Ukrainian language skills to improve the quality of work in the public sector. She emphasized that language is not only a means of communication, but also an integral part of national identity and culture.
The High School of Public Governance is actively engaged in professional development of public servants. During this time, more than 35 thousand employees have acquired new knowledge and skills in this area. In 2024, 4162 employees were trained in fifteen short-term programs covering a wide range of topics, from the practical use of the Ukrainian language to public speaking and business communication.
Yuliia Chernobrov emphasized that knowledge of a language is not only an awareness of its rules, but also the ability to use these rules in the communication process. It is no accident that Socrates said: “Speak so that I may see you,” because the level of language culture reflects the general culture of a person, and a language passport is a document that cannot be falsified.
During the seminar, participants learned about modern tools for checking spelling and stylistics, as well as national and international standards for drafting official documents. The program introduced interactive platforms that help to improve language skills and increase the efficiency of working with texts.
The seminar provided civil servants, students and academics with an opportunity not only to improve their knowledge of the state language, but also to improve their professional skills necessary for successful work in the public sector. The event emphasized the importance of language literacy in modern professional activities.
