On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, the High School is launching the Democracy Week, which this year will last from 16 to 20 September. The first day was dedicated to two key topics: the European model of civic education and cybersecurity.
Democracy is a universal value based on the free expression of the will of the people, who determine their political, economic, social and cultural systems, and involves the active participation of citizens in making socially important decisions. The main goal of the International Day of Democracy is to draw attention to the value of freedom of thought and respect for human rights for every citizen.
Participants of the event had a unique opportunity to discuss with experienced experts how European standards of civic education are being implemented in the Ukrainian context and to discuss its role in shaping democratic values in the context of European integration.
Speakers Yuliia Lykhach, Head of the High School, Maryna Kanavets, Director of the Centre for Adaptation of the Civil Service to the EU Standards, and Svitlana Moskalenko, Head of the Department of Teaching Methodology and Research at the Higher School, shared their knowledge and vision of how to form active and responsible citizens capable of influencing social processes.
The results of the study ‘Political Education of Public Servants’, conducted by the Centre for Adaptation of the Civil Service to the Standards of the European Union, were also presented.
The second part of the event was devoted to an equally important issue – cybersecurity. Volodymyr Azovskyi, director and founder of Inhouse Consulting LLC, trainer of the Kyiv Education Hub, revealed to the audience the main threats in the digital world and ways to protect against them.
For those interested in civic education, the High School also offers useful materials in this area: the online course ‘Political Education of Public Servants in Ukraine’, the manual ‘Political Education of Public Servants in Ukraine’, and the educational series ‘Ukrainian Heroes and Heroines: From Past to Present’.
So the Democracy Week continues. The next few days will be full of discussions and other interesting events that will help us better understand the current challenges to democracy and find answers to them.
We invite everyone to join us in discussing current issues of democracy. Follow the announcements of the events on the High School’s website and social media.
