The High School of Public Governence  joined the Final National Conference of the UN Women Project “Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in the Framework of the Decentralisation Reform in Ukraine”

 On March 15, 2023, the Final National Conference of the UN Women Project “Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment through Decentralisation Reform in Ukraine” was held in Kyiv, which aimed to highlight the results and achievements of the Project, discuss the challenges and threats that have arisen as a result of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia and further steps to ensure gender equality at the regional and local levels.

Yuliia Lykhach, Director of the High School of Public Governence, presented the achievements of the institution in developing gender competencies of specialists (civil servants and local government officials) in the process of professional development at the regional and local levels. According to the Director of the High School, the development of gender competence of civil servants and local government officials is one of the key tasks of the institution and is particularly relevant in the context of the current military realities.

“We have traditionally developed and implemented a number of programmes on gender policy, human rights and non-discrimination, and next year we are already planning to train about 1,500 civil servants and local government officials to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

It is extremely important not to lose the achievements in the field of gender equality during the war and even expand the opportunities for implementing the principles of equal rights and opportunities for women and men in public administration,” remarked Yulia Lykhach.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, De-occupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk and Luhansk Regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the City of Sevastopol, National Minorities and International Relations, Head of the Subcommittee on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination, Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, Government Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities representatives of the Office of the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the National Social Service of Ukraine.
