The High School has launched an entrance test in English and French under the Foreign Language in Public Administration programme, which will last until 5 July. A total of 1,200 civil servants of all categories of positions from 44 government agencies have expressed their desire to take the test. On the first day, 38 people took the test.
The ability to communicate in English is a crucial requirement for public servants. This was stated by Nataliia Aliushyna, Head of the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service, in her address to the test participants. She stressed that the Law of Ukraine “On the Use of English in Ukraine” regulates the specifics of the use of English in the work of government and local authorities. Civil servants will have from two to four years to learn English after the end of martial law (depending on the categories of positions).
Yuliia Lykhach, Head of the High School, presented a new programme “Foreign Language in Public Administration”, thematically adapted to the challenges of European integration and aimed at improving professional and communication competences and developing practical skills in situational and professional communication. The training will last four months. As a result, participants will receive a certificate of advanced training for 3 ECTS credits.
“In August, we are planning to hold a Summer English School as part of the Business Correspondence programme, where participants will be able to learn about business etiquette and correspondence standards, improve their writing, understanding and analysis of business letters. Also, in September, a new season of Speaking club, the main platform for language communications, will start,” said Yuliia Lykhach.
For these and other programmes, the High School has developed a manual for civil servants “Foreign Language in Public Administration (English)” (level one), a mini-dictionary of English for public servants “Glossary for Public servants”, a teaching and learning package for classes in the “Everyday communication” programme, teaching materials for classes in the Summer School on “Business correspondence”, as well as test tasks for the entrance, midterm and final control of students in all programmes.
