On October 29, 2024, the High School of Public Governance completed a short-term professional development program “Child Protection in the European Union”. The purpose of the training is to develop the competence of civil servants and local government officials in the field of child protection based on EU experience.
During the training, which began on 1 October, 23 civil servants deepened their knowledge of the EU’s institutional mechanism for child rights and familiarized themselves with the main international legal documents governing child protection at the EU level. They studied the peculiarities of legal regulation of children’s property and non-property rights, and learned the specifics of case law in the EU and its member states.
The course developed the students’ ability to analyze EU legislation and international documents, evaluate and forecast EU policy on child protection, and understand case law in this area. The skills acquired allow them to anticipate changes in European integration policy and effectively apply the EU Guidelines on Children and Armed Conflict.
Upon completion of the program, the participants became not only aware of human rights activities, but also received important tools to influence the legal culture, protecting children’s rights even in the most difficult conditions.
